First Fruits

Today was the first day of our strawberry harvest! Aren't they BEAUTIFUL? Tomie hasn't quite caught the gist of picking the red ones - unless he's colorblind - hence the green strawberries in the mix.

He definitely gets the whole eating idea - though I remember when he used to eat the WHOLE thing.

Hazel is just learning - but just as with all food she's game for anything. You should've seen some of the faces she made - grimaces galore! This strawberry looks to me like it's her tongue sticking out.

We enjoyed this batch in all their sun-warmed glory, but picked another batch this afternoon to go in the homemade ice cream the boys made for scouts. Frosty frozen or juicy fresh, these strawberries were wonderful and we have more to come! So hip hip hooray for a strawberry patch that manages to grow strawberries year after year despite our haphazard husbandry!

Before and After - Tomas Edition

If I'm not mistaken, on Wheel of Fortune they have a category called "Before and After" for which the answer is made by combining two different things that share a similar word - such as tortilla chip off the old block. I'm playing with that theme to tie together these random pictures of Tomas - enjoy.

5-7-5

Here's what's on my mind - put to haiku to prove to myself I'm not mindless.

State of Affairs

entropy my foe
unraveling my efforts
my house is a mess

Good Things Gone Bad

sausage and bacon
ham steaks and barbequed pork
betrayal - swine flu

The Past Fortnight

sore throat, body aches
congestion, hacking, wheezing
tomie, daddy, me

This Morning

tomas is mischief
cupcake icing, licking tongue
scribbling pen mess

Everyday

hazel sweetie pie
tickly cheeks, smiling eyes
sleep my catnapper

So what's on your mind? Get the creative juices flowing and share your haiku with me. Can you haiku?
